in the time since harry potter defeated lord voldemort in that final showdown on the grounds of hogwarts, the world has been relatively peaceful. muggles have a better idea of the other world that lives beside their own and many wizards are a little more understanding of the one that they have hidden away from for so many years. but of course, not everything is absolutely perfect. there are still people running around with the old ideals lodged into their brains, trying to find a way to summon back the world that voldemort so eagerly fought for while others continue to stand against it. the only question is, will there be anyone to stand up and really fight it now?
hogwarts has been open for several years now, accepting new students and teaching them to use their magic abilities for a higher purpose than themselves. and this year, they strive to do something a little different than they have before. while the triwizard tournaments have been cancelled until the ministry of magic can create a newer and safer tradition, hogwarts has decided to try something of their own. in order to maintain a professional level of teaching and learning, and to encourage healthy competition and cooperation between the houses, they have instituted their own sort of triwizard feel. over the course of the year, several challenges and tasks will be thrown at the students, of which two members of each house will compete.
one boy and one girl above the ages of thirteen are selected to participate, with new students chosen for each task that is set before them. quidditch matches still remain as part of the year, but these challenges are unlike anything some of these students have ever faced in their short lives. the reason? hogwarts now wants to prepare them for whatever comes their way, not knowing how long the peace will last before someone else stands up to try their hand at tyranny and injustice. some parents and adults think the school is going too far with this, but the staff of hogwarts are adamant. these tasks will proceed, and their students will learn the value of life, friendship and trust if they are to succeed in what they do.
